Fhionna Love McGeechan
Glory, Mixed media (pen, acrylic, and water colour), 100 x 60 cm
My name is Fhionna Love McGeechan. I am an artist based in Tarbert, in Scotland. My journey into the world of art began almost three years ago, as I recovered from major surgery to remove cancer
from my body.
My work explores the rawness of nature, and it’s effect on our minds. I love to play with contrasts of light and dark, exploring shadows and colour. My inspiration is taken from the feelings we experience as we connect with animals and the natural world. I endeavour to elicit moments of heart felt emotion, wether joy, peacefulness, or something more disturbing.
The process I use involves many layers, often starting with pen and pencil marks on the canvas. I tend not to plan but to make random marks then build up washes of colours as background. The finer details are added last, and often take the longest time to complete to satisfaction. The mane of a phantom horse, the shadow figure of a hare, the silhouette of forest trees, all in minute detail,
are a joy to paint.
Each piece is a reflection of my ongoing need to connect with natural world. Ultimately, my work aims to evoke an emotional response from the viewer, whatever that may be. Looking forward, I am eager to continue exploring new mediums in an attempt to expand and enhance the scope of my art.
